I went to a live figure drawing event in Bellingham. The model was this lovely embodiment of poise and calm, sitting beneath the frizz and rebellion of her unruly bun, piled high on her head. One look, and I saw the image of her being the center of the tornado, the eye of the storm, which is what I painted.
As I've shared in stories about my paintings, I love symbolism and how the paintings reflect back to me something of interest to ponder. Well, I have aspired to be someone who can hold my feet firmly rooted and my energy and emotional body intact when life swirls around me, sometimes in apparent abandon and disregard for my highly sensitive and easily-overwhelmed nature.
One thing I noticed, though, is that when I am painting, I am that pillar of calm, strength, and presence, no matter what is happening around me.
There are several ways to make this painting your own.
